This report is not just a summary of our activities but a testament of our unwavering commitment to service, resilience, and community care.
As many of you know, PAUS was born from necessity in the wake of the catastrophic 1999 cyclone, locally known as "Mahabatya," which devastated numerous communities in Kendrapara. This tragedy inspired a group of dedicated volunteers to come together, sparking the foundation of our organization in October 1999.
Since then, we have worked across multiple regions, officially registering as an NGO in 2002, and we have made significant strides in our commitment to serve Odisha’s communities in the years that followed.
Cyclone Relief: We provided essential food, clothing, clean water to affected areas in Kendrapara and Jagatsinghpur, focusing on children, mothers, and the elderly.
Post-Cyclone Restoration: From clearing debris to providing temporary housing, we restored normalcy and helped farmers rehabilitate their lands.
Since then, we have worked across multiple regions, officially registering as an NGO in 2002, and we have made significant strides in our commitment to serve Odisha’s communities in the years that followed.
Environmental Restoration: We planted 50,000 trees in Kendrapara to revive greenery and set up health camps for basic healthcare access.
Total Sanitation Campaign: Under the Swachh Bharat Mission, we constructed household toilets and spread hygiene awareness in Sundargarh.
Through Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guaranty Act (MGNREGA), We implemented MGNREGA projects in Sundargarh and Mayurbhanj, providing job cards and creating assets for local communities.
Additionally, we held talent hunts for HSC students in Kendrapara, inspiring young minds and paving the way for educational advancement.
We constructed 4,700 school toilets across the districts of Mayurbhanj and Sundergarh, ensuring a healthier learning environment for both boys and girls. During this period, we also initiated sector reform projects in Sundargarh aimed at enhancing overall community health and hygiene standards.
During 2015-2019: Our focus on sanitation continued as we expanded Individual Household Latrines (IHL) in Kalahandi, Mayurbhanj, Kendrapara, and Sundargarh, promoting a cleaner, healthier Odisha.
In recent years, we have prioritized plantation, agricultural development, and horticulture in Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, and Khordha. This commitment aims to support local food security, foster sustainability, and promote eco-friendly practices.
Strengthened support for old age homes and orphanages by providing essentials like mosquito nets, water filters, and clothing to 50 centers across Khordha, Puri, and Cuttack.
Organized special meal services on significant occasions for orphanages, spreading joy and community warmth.
Set up free drinking water stations during Durga Puja at Nayapali Durga Mandap, enhancing community health during festivities.
At last we did a lot of works Over the years, Pragati Anchalika Unnayan Samiti has grown from a local relief group to a wide-reaching NGO, steadfast in promoting health, education, environmental care, women empowerment, and compassionate community support. We remain deeply committed to our mission of fostering health, sustainability, and hope for underserved communities across Odisha. With your invaluable support, PAUS will continue to expand its impact, reaching further and transforming more lives in need.
